Understanding errors, whether violations, mistakes, or lapses and how they combine with other workplace factors is key to improving health and safety management. Statistics show that unsafe acts are the most common cause of workplace accidents. Despite the introduction of training programs and safe work practices and procedures, controlling unsafe acts has proven to be difficult for some organisations. The reason for this is that an unsafe act involves a Human Factor, that is, accidents occur as a result of people’s attitudes and behaviours. Behavioural Safety courses offer a way to reduce the incidence of unsafe actions by modifying people’s behaviours and improving their attitudes towards safety.
This course will focus on the health, safety and wellbeing aspects and include your company values.
HSG48 ‘Reducing Error and Influencing Behaviour’ is key to this course. The HSE provide guidance, methods and ways to influence positive behaviours in the workplace. The course explores person-centred theories and looks at why we behave the way we do when at work.
